DAY 1– FRIDAY – JANUARY 26, 2018

·       5:30 AM Check in Tampa International Airport, Red Side, Southwest Airline.

·       7:05 AM Depart Tampa International Airport, Southwest, Flight No. WN3952.

·       8:30 AM Arrive at Jose Martí International Airport, Havana.

·       9:00 AM Welcome by Havanatur.

·       9:30 AM Visit to monuments honoring José Martí in Havana.

The first statue of José Martí ever installed in Cuba is the one at Parque Central (Central Park). Sculpted by José Villalta de Saavedra, it replace the statue of Queen Isabella II of Spain, a symbol of the colonial past.

The second Martí statue to be visited is located across from the U.S. Embassy in Havana, and was built in 1999 to hold demonstrations demanding U.S. authorities return the child, Elian Gonzalez, to his father and family in Cuba.

In the center of the famous Revolution Square is an 18-meter-high (59-foot) sculpture of José Martí, made up of 52 blocks of marble. The obelisk behind the statue is Havana’s highest point at over 112 meters (367.8 feet). At the base of the monument is the José Martí Memorial, where 79 of his quotes decorate the walls, and some of his books and personal objects are on display.

·       12:00 PM Lunch at EL ALJIBE Cuban government-owned restaurant known for baked chicken, rice and black beans.

·       3:00 PMCheck In at HOTEL NACIONAL.

·       7:00 PM Dinner at LA MORALEJA, a private sector restaurant known as a Paladar. The term “Paladar” originated from the Brazilian soap opera aired in Cuba, Vale Tudo, as it was the name of the main character’s restaurant chain.

DAY 2– SATURDAY –JANUARY 27, 2018

·       7:00 AM Full breakfast at Hotel Nacional.

·       9:00 AM Visit to José Martí Birthplace

·       9:30 to 11:30 AM A briefing on the History and the Culture of Cuba by Dioelis Delgado Machado, director of the Museum Casa Natal de José Martí. This activity also includes a presentation of a coin commemorating the Tampa-Cuba relationship in the occasion of the 165th Anniversary of José Martí’s birth. This will be presented by the Tampa Bay Numismatic Club in consultation with the Numismatic Museum of Cuba.

·       11:30AM Tour of the birthplace of José Martí.

·       12:30 PM Lunch at CAFÉ DELORIENTE, a government own restaurant.

·       2:00 PM Official Documents pickup for participation in the Unveiling ceremony of Jose Marti statue. Location: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX).

·       3:00 PM Tour of Old Havana. This tour will include a visit to the Model of Old Havana, where you can appreciate the new projects and restoration taking place in Old Havana. It will also include a walking tour around some of the most famous buildings and squares of Old Havana.  

·       4:30 PM Back to Hotel Nacional.

·       6:00 PM Gathering of the invitees at Hotel Colina.

·       7:00 PM Be part of the March of the Torches. Every year on the eve of January 28th, people from Havana, mainly university students, march from the University of Havana to the Fragua Martiana to celebrate Martí’s birthday. The march, held for the first time in 1953 (the 100th anniversary), was first organized by the Federation of University Students and has become an important tradition in Cuban university life and culture.

DAY 3– SUNDAY –JANUARY 28, 2018

·       7:00 AM Full breakfast at Hotel Nacional.

·       10:00 AM Tour at The National Museum of Fine Arts of Havana where you can enjoy exhibits of Cuban art collections from the colonial times up to contemporary generations.

·       12:00 AM Lunch at SAN CRISTOBAL, a paladar restaurant.

·       2:00 PM Back to Hotel

·       4:30 PM Attend the solemn and historic ceremony of the official unveiling of the unique reproduction of the equestrian monument of the Cuban Apostle José Martí. The original statue has resided in New York City, Central Park, since 1965. Many government officials and dignitaries from around the world, including the United States, will be in attendance. 

·       5:00 PM Attend the Camarata Romeu concert at the San Francisco de Asis Basilica.

·       8:00 PM Dinner at your leisure (will make recommendations).

 

DAY 4– MONDAY –JANUARY 29, 2018

·       7:00 AM Full breakfast at Hotel Nacional.

·       9:00 AM Check out Hotel Nacional.

·       10:00 AM Visit Almacenes San Jose to buy Souvenirs. 

·       12:00 PM Lunch at AMOS, a private sector restaurant and photo gallery.

·       3:00 PM Check in José Martí International Airport, Southwest, Flight Number WN3953.

·       6:10 PM Depart José Martí International Airport.
